Chameleon Moon by RoAnna Sylver5/13/2023 These ranged in genre from memoir ( Being Jazz by Jazz Jennings) to graphic novel ( Taproot by Keezy Young and My Brother’s Husband by Gengoroh Tagame) to fiction ( How to Be a Normal Person by TJ Klune and Comfort and Joy by Jim Grimsley) to fantasy ( Baker Thief by Claudie Arseneault and Of Fire and Stars by Audrey Coulthurst) to a story in verse ( Some Girls Bind by Rory James). #NotEmbarrassed Therefore, it is not surprising that last year I finished fourteen books in June and had another seven in progress on the last day of the month. For example, I have one by my bed, one on audio in the car, one by my couch, one on Kindle, one in my purse, and one in the bathroom. I am one of those people who reads about ten books at a time. One of the things I do every year to celebrate pride month is to read exclusively LGBTQ+ books. I identified as a reader long before I realized I fell under the LGBTQ+ umbrella.

Replay book5/12/2023 Bybanks appears in Walk Two Moons and Chasing Redbird and Bloomability. I loved Quincy so much that it has found its way into many of my books-transformed into Bybanks, Kentucky. We were outside running in those hills all day long, and at night we'd gather on the porch where more stories would be told. One other place we often visited was Quincy, Kentucky, where my cousins lived (and still live) on a beautiful farm, with hills and trees and swimming hole and barn and hayloft. The five-day trip out to Idaho when I was twelve had a powerful effect on me: what a huge and amazing country! I had no idea then that thirty-some years later, I would recreate that trip in a book called Walk Two Moons. We must have been a very noisy bunch, and I'm not sure how our parents put up with being cooped up with us in the car for those trips. In the summer, we usually took a trip, all of us piled in a car and heading out to Wisconsin or Michigan or, once, to Idaho. (In that book, the brothers even have the same names as my own brothers.) Our house was not only full of us Creeches, but also full of friends and visiting relatives. I was born in South Euclid, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland, and grew up there with my noisy and rowdy family: my parents (Ann and Arvel), my sister (Sandy), and my three brothers (Dennis, Doug and Tom).įor a fictional view of what it was like growing up in my family, see Absolutely Normal Chaos.

Reconstruction by eric foner5/12/2023 But it is not simply data and dates and numbers. I can't say it is easy to read: it is not light reading, and there is simply a lot to tell. Foner writes it all-the beautiful early events, the alarming portents of change, and the sad, almost predictable human disaster of the end of Reconstruction.Ī solid, well-written book. The African slaves would become African Americans (a thing which was astounding at such a large scale, really-with a swipe of a pen the amendments enabling their civil rights made them joint owners of the American dream).ĭr. There was a brief moment when the will of the people was such that American Negroes (to use their terms) were seen as possibly full and equal human beings along with their fellow white citizens. It will break your heart, because you will see such promise in the very early years. It is all a mess in a way, just like life, but Foner extracts the threads and lays out the humans who worked through this time of post-Civil War Reconstruction. Some were the people who worked for freedom, and some were those who upheld slavery. You will get in touch with these people, some enslaved, some free, some made free. You will read about actual people from just a few short years ago, how they felt, how they struggled, what they wanted, what they hoped for. You will not be reading a dusty tome of long-ago lives.

Untamed glennon doyle5/12/2023 Does she realize that many women know who they are? We don’t all judge our value ourselves by the size of thighs? I began to wonder if Glennon had respect for ‘anyone’ other than herself. She was down right mean, righteous at times. Glennon’s selfish tone towards others was brutal - rather than unflinching honest. She demonstrated several times how she swung that pendulum from being a person who didn’t know how to please herself to no longer pleasing anyone. Glennon will ALWAYS put her needs and desires ‘before’ others. I often didn’t buy her strategies in achieving emotional balance-because ‘she’ lacked balance in important areas of life: true empathy for others. My thoughts and feelings changed ‘several’ times - from positive to negative - back to positive- back to negative!!!īy the end.

Lust for life book5/12/2023 Ed himself travelled extensively, making contact with people across the world with his camera. Recognised as one of the most important photographers of the 20th century, his classic book Love On The Left Bank is still in print over sixty years after it was first published, and although he died in 1990 his work has become increasingly popular with regular exhibitions on a worldwide basis. The exhibition has only been possible as a result of the largest photo restoration project in Dutch history – with more than 42,000 slides of van der Esken’s work now carefully restored. Its publication coincides with a major six month long exhibition which opens at the end of May at The Nederlands Fotomuseum, the national museum of photography in the Netherlands. Lust for Life is the first comprehensive overview of Ed van der Elsken’s colour work. I sing everything: love, courage, beauty but also anger, blood, sweat and tears.’ – Ed van der Elsken

Diana princess of the amazons5/12/2023 She grew up on Themiscyra as the only child in her entire world. Part of why I wanted to do Diana, personally, is not only because I have always loved Wonder Woman, but because I thought her story as a kid would be so fascinating. They were like, "You know, if you could pick any character, what would your dream character be? What would you want to do?" Diana was our first choice and honestly I didn't think we were gonna be so lucky as to write Wonder Woman! They said yeah, so that was a dream come true. When we first talked to editors at DC, they were awesome. Shannon Hale: We first started with Diana. RELATED: Wonder Woman's Tween Adventures Revealed in New DC Graphic NovelĬBR: What drew you to Wonder Woman, of all the characters in the DC canon? They also discussed the importance of showing diverse bodies and relationships, why it was key to show Diana making mistakes and more. They revealed what drew them to Wonder Woman of all the characters in the DC canon, how they realized they wanted to explore the loneliness of her childhood and why Diana and Hippolyta's changing relationship seemed like the perfect jumping-off point to start the story. Speaking to CBR, Diana: Princess of the Amazons writers Shannon and Dean Hale and artist Victoria Ying opened up the world of Themiscyra.

Astonishing x men volume 1 gifted5/11/2023 And Logan is actually not the main character in the story, which is a good thing. <3 I loved tension of him and Emma's relationship. Scott, my all time favorite hero, is still depicted as the great leader he's always been. Whedon stays true to the characters and continuity as well. This story arc comes with full of surprises, emotion, and funnyness. Lockheed, Pryde's alien-dragon friend, came in with an awesome entrance and saved the night! "Hell, I think we should make him team leader," Wolverine quoted. I loved the brief battle among the X-Men and Ord. Miss Frost and Kitty Pryde's constant bickering and tension were realistic as well as funny. And some of the dialogue Emma says made me question where her true loyalties are. "Maybe I should just kill her," Emma Frost said. The X-Men react to this "cure" as offensive. Kavito Rao and a mysterious alien named Ord of the Breakworld, who has a lot to do with an X-Man thought dead. Their main purpose is to become superheroes again and just to help out in the community. They get rid of their older costumes in Morrison's New X-Men and replace them with updated versions of their older 70's costumes. Scott Summers and Emma Frost reform the X-Men teaming up with Kitty Pryde, Logan, and Dr. This is a continuation of Morrison's New X-Men storyline. The Astonishing X-Men: Gifted arc is truly astonishing.

Max lucado book about dots5/11/2023 In fact, whenever he tries to do something to stand out, he falls flat on his face. He is neither the most-talented nor the smartest. The main character, Punchinello, is a sad Wemmick covered in gray dots. ‘You Are Special’ is a tale about little wooden people armed with two types of stickers gold stars to stick on desirable wooden Wemmicks and ugly, gray circles to stick on Wemmicks they decide are just not worth that much. Read this.” She said and handed me the book, ‘You Are Special,’ by Max Lucado. She said this after I said I don’t want to do this because ‘No one else is doing it!’ That is until my friend Nina called me a ‘Wemmick.’ No matter what I said, the power of peer review overwhelmed him. ‘Someone’ had said ‘something’ and he was inconsolable. How many times have you tried to tell your children that they are special –but it just doesn’t stick?
